Hey Kids, Comics! #145 - Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?: Vehicular

Put the petal to the metal, take flight, or drive yourself up a wall, literally, as the latest story arc hits the streets (among other places) with a look at various vehicles that have made their mark in comics!

Your hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston buckle up and set batteries to power and electric turbines to speed as they talk up aerial, terrestrial, and perhaps extraterrestrial vehicles.  As the wrap-up of the arc fast approaches, the discussions moves from the portable to conveyances.

There is not shortage of subject matter from submarines, airplanes, super-cars, and even sky sleds!  From the iconic to the sensible to the down right ridiculous, everybody who needs a faster way to get from Point A to Point B will have their favorite means of transport.  Learn about as many as can be squeezed into a mere hour on this week's show!

The Rantcor Pit Live #33 - The Force of July: Tales of The Rantcor Pit

This episode originally aired live on Deep Ellum on Air on Sunday, July 19, 2015.  Due to a technical delay it is finally archived here a week later.

The Force of July continues on The Rantcor Pit Live with a third big week of guests and Star Wars fun!

This week hosts Cole Houston and Eddie Medina were joined by fellow podcaster Jeff McGee of Bantha Banter (among other shows) and Lubbock Con's own DeNae Griffith!  The conversation turned to personal Star Wars stories this outing.  From initial encounters with the Saga to collecting, to passing the fandom torch to a new generation!

Discover what had Disney up in arms that week, what it took to get some Dixie Cups, and how important it is to share Star Wars with the kids.  These and other stories will be shared as Tales of the Rantcor Pit unfolds!

Hey Kids, Comics #144 - Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?: Military Grade

There are gadgets, devices, weapons, and "toys"...then there are the truly BIG guns!

Welcome to the latest issue of Hey Kids, Comics! and the middle of the "Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?" story arc.  This week your hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston break out those big guns as they talk up the warfare ordinance level gadgetry employed by many heroes and villains.  Beyond just laser firing prosthetic tails or utility belts full of goodies there are the force beams that shatter walls and the handguns that take out tanks.

Forces to be reckoned with of this scale are employed by the heaviest hitters both good and bad.  This weeks discussions try to touch on the most notable characters who have become one-person weapons platforms in their own right.  From the Hall of Justice to the Hall of Armors, comics have long brought us some hefty heroes (and villains against which to pit them).  Prepare for a higher form of war (or criminal justice) with the accouterments considered of military grade that are explored herein!

Atta boy!

Hey Kids Comics! #143 - Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?: Suit Up

Isn't it cool when someone has a T-shirt that has light up elements?  Or a dress with some kind of neon glow coming from underneath?  Technology and textiles being paired is not so uncommon in this day and age, but what about clothing that takes things into a whole other realm?  That is what Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston set out to talk about as they discuss various "super-suits" in comics.

From costumes that adapt to your powers without being destroyed by them to armors and costumes that are chock-a-block full of gadgets and tech to give you the upper hand in a fight.  From flight gauntlets and leggings to protective body armors to all manor of costumes that, once donned, make a man into a super-man.

What characters will enter the conversation this time?  What is the distinction between the super-suit and the REALLY super-suit (that will be covered in a latter issue of this show)?  Who thought it was a good idea to create an artificial fifth limb as part of their alter-ego?  These and other burning questions are the order of the day this week on Hey Kids, Comics!

Most awkward "Marvel Universe" entry in the history of the series.

The Rantcor Pit Live #32 - The Force of July: Anatomy of a Super-Collector

The Rantcor Pit (the pre-recorded version) will be on a month long hiatus during The Rancor Pit Live’s “The Force of July”.  Four full weeks of the live show leaves little time for Cole and Eddie so please bear with us as we bring you a series of great video podcasts originally aired live on Deep Ellum on Air.  This is in celebration of our first month in the brand new studios in Dallas!  The simple tricks and nonsense you’ve enjoyed will return to the bi-weekly schedule in August, with the live show scaling back to twice a month as well.  For now, enjoy this episode of The Rantcor Pit Live which originally aired on July 12, 2015.
Welcome to the second episode of our month-long event, "The Force of July"!  This week Cole Houston and Eddie Medina have brought in a couple of friends who are as silly for Star Wars as they are to talk about podcasting and collecting.  And then there is that thing that got shown at San Diego Comic Con!

VaderCast founder Tim Kennedy and Star Wars Super Collectors Wishbook author Geoffrey T. Carlton joined the fun at the Deep Ellum on Air studio.  While the guests were planned in advance, the addition of the Episode VII behind the scenes video took The Rantcor Pit by surprise, and thus also took center stage.  But only for the first half of the show.

Harken back to the days of Cole's first podcast, VaderCast and learn how one goes from collector to super collector in realizing the dream of an epic-scale collecting guide!  This and so much more as The Force of July month continues!

Hey Kids, Comics! #142 - Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?: Handheld

Welcome to a new story arc for Hey Kids, Comics!, a bit late on the scheduling but big on the fun!

In "Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?", hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston explore the technology as well as the mystical gadgets, weapons, and miscellaneous accouterments that are common in comics.  From the iconic to the obscure, from do-dads to full scale weapons of war, there was certainly enough material to fill five issues of the show!

This time your hosts get "hands on" and talk about the gizmos and weaponry employed by various comic book characters.  There are the obvious high-tech marvels like Spider-Man's web shooters, but then there are some less high profile shields, guns, swords, and purpose-built inventions that also stand out.  With such a portable arsenal in mind, Cole and Andy grab on to this topic with both hands!

The Rantcor Pit Live #31 - The Force of July Episode One: Star Wars Roundtable

This episode of The Rantcor Pit Live originally aired on Sunday, July 5, 2015.  Apologies for the long delay in posting it on The JediCole Universe website.  This is the first episode of the show to be produced in the new Deep Ellum on Air studio.

Your Favorite Star Wars Guys are proud to bring you The Force of July, a month-long celebration of Star Wars with weekly episodes of the The Rantcor Pit Live!

The last show of June was cancelled due to technical difficulties in the move to the new Deep Ellum on Air studio in Dallas, so Cole Houston and Eddie Medina decided to go all in with "a month of Sundays" that are all about the Star Wars.  This week they are joined by Matt Morris and returning guest Paco Sanchez.  If you've seen the first appearance of Mr. Sanchez on the show then you know the wheels come off pretty early.  But this is Star Wars, so who needs wheels?

With a pair of guest with diverse experiences with Star Wars, plus your hosts, steeped as they are, this week's theme was a Star Wars Roundtable.  The discussion is all over the galaxy (far, far away) and a whole lot of fun.

Hey Kids, Comics! #141 - Secret Agent Man

Welcome to a unique edition of Hey Kids, Comics! that explores the clandestine world of top secret organizations in comics.

Your clandestine hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston  discuss various secret agencies and secret agents as portrayed in comics over the decades.  Why are such organizations and those they employ such a vital part of the narrative?  Why are anagrams so vital?  Which are the best and worst such clandestine groups?

These and other questions will be answered as spy stuff becomes the order of the day and the agencies that protect, and those that do harm, are brought to the fore.  In the high stakes game of intrigue only the strong survive, and comics bring us some of the strongest and most compelling characters since James Bond.  Within this secretive realm there are many characters and groups to uncover, but which will make their way into this issue of Hey Kids, Comics! that was only recently obtained through the Freedom of Podcasting Act.  Who can say?
