The Rantcor Pit #23 - Obi-Wan Was a Damn Liar!

"Lie to me."
Welcome to The Rantcor Pit and a special look at Obi-Wan Kenobi's penchant for dishonesty.

Throughout the Star Wars saga Ben Kenobi is shown to be as adept at bending the truth, telling little white lies, and outright deceiving even those closest to him.  His level of duplicity is staggering and goes beyond the obvious "certain point of view" he took in explaining the history of Darth Vader.

Cole Houston and Eddie Medina take on the falsehoods of this most famous of Jedi liars as they delve deep into the fraudulent statements of Obi-Wan.

Listen to this deceit-full episode now!

Hey Kids, Comics! #107 - Comiconomy

Economics.

Regardless of the political system utilized by a culture, in the modern world economics is still the deciding factor at work in all things.  Money, after all, makes the world go ‘round.  But how do the principles of economy work in  a world full of super-powered beings, ultra high technology, and extraterrestrial life?  It can’t simply be business as usual with the odd caped wonder soaring over the Stock Exchange, can it?  And on a more individual level, what are the economics of becoming a crime fighter?  Can you beat up the bad guys and thwart evil-doers while still paying the rent and putting food on the table?

Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston crunch the numbers in this issue that takes an accounting of the power of the All-Mighty Buck in the realm of the super-hero.  Cash in on this great episode that you will certainly keep you entertained all the way to the bank.  That is if you happen to be listening to the show while driving to your bank.  Regardless, you don’t have to be a CPA to enjoy this week’s HKC!

The Rantcor Pit Live #12 - Galactic Film Festival I

It all got started with Hardware Wars.  The Star Wars fan film has gone from infrequent at best to almost ubiquitous in the age of video and computers.

As a result Cole Houston and Eddie Medina have taken it upon themselves to host their first (of many to come) Galactic Film Festival!  Join them as they take you from the adventures of Fluke Starbucker to some unusual films by the fans themselves.  Even the "Jedi Holocron" himself, Jantzen joins in with some great footage that he really loves.

And speaking of Jantzen, again we must thank him for making this technically busy episode and making it work so well!

Hey Kids, Comics! #106 - Masters of Kung-Fu

There is a long-standing fascination in the West with the martial arts of the East.  Primarily those of China, but those of Japan have also been in the spotlight.  Comic books are certainly no stranger to the specialized, and often mystified, techniques of hand to hand combat that are uniquely Asian.

Thank you to Dan Cerquitella for the use of his Paul Gulacy commission (above) in this week's issue.

Join your hosts Andrew "Rex Kwon Do" Farmer and Cole "Shaq- Fu" Houston as they explore the influence of martial arts on comics and comic book characters.  It truly is East meets West in a four color mixed martial arts extravaganza that puts the whole cast of Mortal Combat to shame!

Bow to your Sensai and listen to this episode!

Do It Yourself Episode 3: Man of Steel

Vegabomber and Joose are back!  This time they set their sights on Zach Snyder's over the top take on Superman, Man of Steel.

With a sequel already in production, how would your hosts have made a better go of the first film of the latest Superman franchise?  Where did this movie go wrong in their opinion and what could be done to fix it?  Enjoy what promises to be a super episode of this popular JCU podcast!

Whadjathink? - Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

The Wages of Sin

It's time for another spoiler-rich edition of Whadjathink?  Mrs. JediCole and Bobby Blakey are at it again, this time they are turning down any given back alley in Frank Miller's Sin City!

Actually they have invited Hey Kids, Comics! co-hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston to join them as they discuss the long overdue sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  Like Marv, they pull no punches when it comes to spoilers, so if you have not yet seen the movie, perhaps it would be best to check it out first.  Find out for yourself if Robert Rodriguez's latest noir effort found favor in their eyes.

SPOILER ALERT!

The Rantcor Pit #22 - Responsible Parties

Who's in charge here?

When it comes to major motion pictures, it is the director of course.  And when it comes to the Star Wars Saga, the responsibilities of both the director and the writer certainly influence the final films.

George Lucas, Irvin Kirshner, and Richard Marquand direct their respective sagas.
Join hosts Cole "JediCole Houston and Eddie Medina as they explore those responsible for the Star Wars films to date and touch on those yet to come.  From George Lucas' often disjointed vision that, with the help of many others over the years, became the mythology of our time to the unusual choices of those who were given the helm.  These films are full of ups and downs that are all the product of those who wrote the stories and screenplays and those who shepherded them through the creative process that brought them to the silver screen.

JJ Abrams takes up the torch as the Saga continues.

Hey Kids, Comics! #105 - Challenge of the Super-Fails: Toy Not Fair

Prepare to be "badded"!  Hey Kids, Comics! has yet again set sail for the Aisle of Misfit Toys!

We live in a truly golden age for collectors when almost any pop culture property is ripe for licensing.  This translates, for comic book fans, into a veritable cornucopia of toys and collectibles based on their favorite titles.  Truly something to celebrate, right?

Weeellllllllll...not always.

Sometimes the best characters (and even the worst) in comics get a less than ideal treatment from toy manufacturers.  The bane of collectors everywhere are the tragic toys that represent what might have been.  And then there are the toys that should never have been!  Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston dip into the devil's toy box and make their Wish (It Didn't Exist) List for comic book themed toys!

The Rantcor Pit Live #11 - He's a Man, Not a System

It's time for another Star Wars character spotlight on The Rantcor Pit!  This time it is the king of cool in that galaxy far, far away...none other than Lando Calrissian!

Cole "JediCole" Houston and Eddie Medina discuss the suave, sophisticated, and devil-may-care administrator of Bespin's Cloud City with their special guest Andrew Farmer.

Is this former card-playing scoundrel turned "Mr. Responsibility" actually the most effective character in the Saga?  Does he have a plan for every contingency?  What's up with him pilfering Han's wardrobe?

"This could be the sexiest episode of 'The Rantcor Pit Live' ever!"
This and more is explored as we pile three people into a Twin-Pod Cloud Car for a trip to that city among the clouds.  Pack up your Ugnaughts and carbonite and ice cream makers for some fun and surprises that are all about Lando!

Hey Kids, Comics! #104 - Challenge of the Super-Fails: Defective Comics

When good comics go bad it is a terrible thing indeed.  When comics start out bad it is rather tragic, since it is rare that they will ever improve.

Your hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston reveal many points that comics failed them.  Often in a big way!  From DC Challenge to the parody and adult comic gluts, there is plenty to explore.  Join the fun (and the pain) as the bad side of comics is the topic of conversation here at Hey Kids, Comics!
