The Rantcor Pit Live #19 - The Vader Situation

What is up with Darth Vader?

That is the question posed by this week's live show guest, Jason McLean has posed.

Could it be that the Dark Lord of the Sith is purposefully or inadvertently the weak link in the chain of Palpatine's grand scheme?   This is certainly a bold accusation, yet when your hosts Cole Houston and Eddie Medina join in to explore this odd possibility, there seems to be a strong case against the Emperor's personal enforcer that comes to light.

Check out the archive of Sunday, December 28th's The Rantcor Pit Live to discover for yourself if Darth Vader is not the villain he is all cracked up to be in reality.

Trilogy, Interrupted (or What Ever Happened to the Third Chapter of "The Rantcor Pit - One End of This Galaxy to the Other"?

JediCole here with an apology for the long delay in getting the final chapter of One End of This Galaxy to the Other (also known as The Rantcor Pit #28) out on the JCU site.

The holidays have really tied up Eddie and myself as well as our ideal guests for this chapter of our first trilogy.  After careful consideration we have determined to get through this week and start fresh in the new year with the long overdue episode on the international impact of Star Wars collecting.

The Rantcor Pit Live will still have one more episode this year from Deep Ellum on Air on which we will bid a fond farewell to 2014 and look forward to 2015 and the beginning of a Golden Age of Star Wars films!  Thank you for your patience and understanding as time with family and friends during this season keep us away from our mics and our show.

Hey Kids, Comics! #117 - The End of the World

Game over man!  Game over!

There are times when the end is nigh and times when the end is nigh impossible to deny.  In comics, raging against the dying of the light tends to bring a new and unexpected dawn.  After all, is this not the realm of death as more a vacation than a final destination?

Well, enough waxing poetic.  This week's triumphant return of Hey Kids, Comics! finds your hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston at the end of the world.  Or the end of the universe, reality, This or that dimension, or all of creation.  The alarming regularity with which everything is destined to be destroyed for all time in comics is somewhat overwhelming!

Join your hosts as they explore the nature of world-ending scenarios and their impact on the greater universes they threaten.  Are the effects felt for all time or simply shrugged off like a bad day at the office?  Well that varies from Armageddon to Armageddon, but that is a story you will have to listen to the show to discover for yourself.

And you had better hurry because you never know when tomorrow is never going to come again!

Hey Kids Comics Holiday Hoedown!

Hey There Fearless Flyers of the Internet Radio Waves!

In light of the impending holiday, Hey Kids, Comics! is going to be taking a week off.  Instead of a new show, I thought we would address a question that we receive often out at the HKC mobile, subarctic, extraterrainial, recording studio.  We had gotten a great many inquiries as to what our favorite shows are.  We will be handling that question today, as the requisite forms have been signed in triplicate. Here are some of our recent picks.  Let's start where we most often don't, at the first pick.

Hey Kids, Comics! #81 - Cryptids and Comics: The Lost Issue

This was an incredibly fun show to do.  We didn't have time to plan out what we actually wanted to do, but those always turn out the best.  The idea of doing a pseudo radio drama came to us about 20 minutes before the recording started, and we had to mesh all these ideas into a show with nothing more than the idea of what we wanted it to be.  Eddie and Colleen came through big time, and that just proves what we always say here...never underestimate the improv skills of a paranormal investigator!  The 11:59th hour addition of the secret cameo was really the icing on the cake.  It was a great topic, made greater by a group idea that came all the way through!

Hey Kids, Comics! #66 - Hey Comics! What's For Supper?!

One of the things that we really like to do at Hey Kids, Comics! is to attempt to test or "stump" each other.  When choosing topics, we usually have have a few that we think just can't be done; that no matter how much research we do, or how creative we are, there is no way that we can pull an hour out of that idea.  Invariably, we end up with a show that we both adore, and #66 is among the favorites of our stumpers.  The addition of our old friend and podmate, Rick Gutierrez, made it all the better.  You can check out his show (that both Cole and Andrew appear on) over at unitedstatesofgeekdom.com

Hey Kids, Comics! #61 - Deconstructing Comics: To Prove a Villain

When we got together to start this show, we didn't want to do a comics review show.  There are a ton of places to get that information.  We set out to do a show that we hadn't heard before, a single topic show about overarching ideas and extrapolated errata, and other nonsense that we so often would kick back and forth.  Quickly we realized that we could, in honor of the comic book practice, do 5 issue "story arcs" on some of the themes that we would put forth.  These often come from a single issue idea, that is followed with one of the team, in a Brian Blessed Bravado, proclaiming that "we can go 5 issues on that. "  Deconstructing Comics was one of those arcs, and this issue stood out from the crop for us, if for no other reason than Cole dropped a bomb shell of a villian on us, that still reverberates around the JCU today.

There you have it, three of our favorite recent episodes.  We invite you to take a listen to all we have to offer at the JCU.  A lot of heart and soul go into all of these shows, and it is reflected in the passion of the stories they tell.  Thank you all for everything you have done for Hey Kids, Comics and The Jedicole Universe, and we will see you next week with a brand spankin' new show!

Do It Yourself #6: The Dark Knight Rises

It's time again to Do It Yourself!  Well, if you are the show's hosts Vegabomber and Joose, that is!

Yet again these avid fans of the cinema talk up what they love about one of their favorite films, but then they take a different turn.  While they love these movies, there is always room for improvement.  So how exactly would they have made this episodes target, The Dark Knight Rises, more personally satisfying?

You will just have to find out for yourself as the JCU's self-styled movie renovators have a go at the final chapter of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight Trilogy".

Hey Kids, Comics! #116 - She Who Purrs at Midnight

Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston are back again with more comic book fun and action after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend!  Hot on the heels (or chicken feet?) of last week's issue they move from bird to cat as they explore the mysterious allure of feline femme fatales!

From the obvious like Catwoman to the more obscure, like Marvel's ill-fated Night-Cat, there is something about taking on the mantle of one of natures most feared or revered animals that is ideal for hero and villain alike.

Why does the persona of the cat become most associated with female characters?  What is the allure?  What does a feline name or power invoke in foe and ally?  Find out what your hosts think as they bat these and other questions back and forth for an hour!

Marvel's Puma
And not to worry, the "cat guys" get showcased as well!  All of this and a tribute to a special friend of the JCU!

Listen to This Catty Episode Right Here!

The Rantcor Pit Live #17 - And, Droids

Between Wookie Life Day and the Thanksgiving holiday things are running a bit behind schedule here at The JediCole Universe.  As a result I am a bit late posting Sunday's The Rantcor Pit Live.  If you missed the live stream of this episode, here is your second chance to catch up on the fun from Deep Ellum on Air!

This time your hosts Cole Houston and Eddie Medina get silly for droids!  Those ubiquitous robots of the Star Wars universe are always about doing the dirty work of humans and non-humans alike.  From menial tasks no one wants to be bothered with to engaging in warfare, the droids were a major part of every Star Wars incarnation from 1977 forward.

They may not be welcome in Mos Eisley Cantina, but they sure are on the JCU's resident Star Wars podcast!  Find out what your hosts have to say about droids through the ages, including a recently introduced new model!
